Gitcoin started in 2017 initially as a way to create an incentivization layer for GitHub, through bounties for contributions to open source software projects in the Ethereum ecosystem. As an entrance point for onboarding developers into Web3, Gitcoin became an online institution supporting the broader creation and funding of public goods.
