Black Swan was formed from members of Trust, a “network of utopian conspirators researching and building interdependent infrastructures for composing common worlds." Penny Rafferty, a writer and visual artist, drafted a white paper for Black Swan to outline ways to explore the creation of proactive community-owned support systems for artists. Since its inception, the group has released several tools including a platform for collective fund distribution using quadratic voting, and Bubble, a bot that allows members of a Discord server to collectively tweet from a common account using emoji reactions.
